Persephone; daughter of Demeter, wife of Hades, Goddess of spring, and queen of the underworld. I have been a follower of Persephone for quite a few years now and have a shrine dedicated to her in my apartment!! Persephone, warned against exploration for fear of leaving her post and forsaking the spring journeyed into the forest one day to be spotted by Hades, god of the underworld. Persephone’s youth and beauty captured him and he stole her away to the world down below. Hades and Persephone, while starting stranger, fell in love. However, Persephone began to weaken without the flowers and sunlight. Though she was dying, she didn’t want to say goodbye to her love. So as a celestial compromise, Persephone are six pomegranate seeds grown in the underworld. This allowed her to stay for half the year. This is why the seasons change as they do!
